Teen missing after central Texas flash floods

At 12:30 a.m. on Friday, a teen's car was swept away by floodwaters near the intersection of Hewitt Drive and Mars Drive in Waco.

Eighteen-year-old LaCharles Montgomery's vehicle floated down the creek near Midway High School's soccer fields.

While he was floating away, he called family and friends. During his phone call with 911, his phone died.

Officials say that when they responded to the scene, the water was extremely high. One official said that he had never seen the water that high on Hewitt Drive and described it as "almost like a river."

Because it was nighttime, the search was tough without any light.

Around daybreak, the McLennan County Sheriff's helicopter was sent out to search for Montgomery.

Almost two miles away, Montgomery'sVolkswagenn Passat was found.

They found the windows to be broken in the car, but Montgomery was not inside.

Officials moved to search and recovery mode. Game wardens, firefighters, officers, and bloodhounds were all searching for Montgomery.

LaCharles Montgomery graduated this past Saturday. He played football in high school and planned to go to college.

The investigation is still ongoing.
