A Monday night Beaumont Independent School District public hearing had few people show in attendance. The meeting comes just days before a Thursday-night board meeting that's sure to be packed
The public hearing was part of corrective actions required by the Texas Education Agency covering the status of BISD's Accredited Probation assigned by the Commissioner of Education.
Most members of the public who spoke used their one minute to criticize the district for posting a notice of the public hearing at the latest possible moment, Friday at 5 p.m.
The district is appealing the Accredited Probation status as well as the replacement of the board of trustees and the superintendent with a board of managers.
Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois' response to the criticism was also that the district followed all guidelines put forth by the Commissioner of Education.
A week from this Wednesday district officials will be in Austin for its appeal of the state takeover.
