Target announces no-gun policy

Target announced Wednesday it is adopting a no-gun policy.

The national chain is asking customers not to bring firearms to its stores, even in communities where it's permitted by law.

Target's interim CEO John Mulligan said in a statement bringing firearms "creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping."

The company had recently come under fire by anti-gun lobbying groups like "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense."

The third largest US retailer is the biggest company yet to ban the so-called "open carry" of firearms.

Chipotle became the first major company to ask customers not to bring guns to its locations two months ago.
