BEAUMONT - People are getting ready to cheer on the Lamar Cardinals, hundreds are out tailgating wearing their red ready for kickoff.
For one tailgator, coming to the games is a reminder of their past.
"Back when I was here, they got rid of the football team on my junior year," says Arlington native Ted Edy.
When he heard that football was coming back to Lamar, he couldn't miss out in tailgating.
Him and his wife drove over 5 hours to make it to the Provost Humphrey Stadium, he says it's a reminder of his fraternity days.
"We were on campus till 1996, while I was here at Lamar, I had a blast.." he says,
Twenty years later there's a new crowd tailgating waiting for kickoff.
"Oh we're really excited to go cheer on LU," says Lamar Univesity student Luis Gomez.
Seeing the new generation of people cheering on the Cardinals is a reminder of those good old days at Lamar for Ted.
"I'm just glad we're able to do this again." says Ted.
Tailgators are confident that Lamar will win.
Kick off at Cardinal stadium is Saturday at 7:00PM.
