Sulphur man indicted in death of 13-month-old

Thursday the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office re-arrested Trent A. Dubroc, 24, of Sulphur, following a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury indictment of 2nd degree murder in connection with the September 30 death of a 13 month old baby.

This charge was upgraded from the original charge of 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile and his bond has been increased from $1.5 million to $5 million.

On September 28, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint from the Department of Children and Family Services in reference to a 13 month old baby who was brought to a local hospital by his caregiver because the baby was in distress.

After medical tests revealed the baby had a skull fracture, he was immediately transferred to a Baton Rouge hospital where he remained on life support until September 30 when he was removed and pronounced dead.

During the investigation, detectives interviewed family members as well as Dubroc, who is the mother's boyfriend. When questioned by detectives, Dubroc confirmed on September 28, he removed the baby from the crib and threw the baby across the room out of frustration. He then returned the baby to the crib and notified no one.

Dubroc, who was already incarcerated in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a bench warrant for failure to appear in court on video voyeurism charges, was re-arrested on September 30.
