Strong job outlook in Orange this Labor Day

It may soon be a job-seekers market in the city of Orange as the number of available jobs continues to rise.

The city's Director of Economic Development, Jay Trahan, said he credits expansion efforts in the chemical industry, like the $100 million project at Invista.

"It has positive impact on retention of existing jobs plus opportunity to add and create new jobs in the future," Trahan said. "Anytime you're looking at capital investment especially expansion, there's always that opportunity and hope that it will create new jobs in the area."

The number of Invista jobs remains unclear, but an expansion at STI, the Southeast Texas Industries group, could bring up to 100 jobs at a new facility.

Another major development is the Interstate-10 Project which Trahan said is expected to drive more business downtown.

"It's about a four to five mile stretch of the interstate which will now be improved throughout the city of Orange," Trahan said. "It will increase accessibility and visibility along the Interstate."

As the hardworking people of Orange took time away from their jobs to celebrate Labor Day, it was also a time to appreciate the work they have.
