The district 21 state representative race has become edgy in the last week with complaints by
candidate Judy Nichols that voters are being misled about her.
Both candidates spoke today at the Golden Triangle Republican Women's meeting at the Elegante.
Nichols says republican candidate Dade Phelan's campaign has distributed mailers making the case that Nichols wants to eliminate public funding for Texas public schools.
She says she only referred to "tearing into" education funding in a recent radio interview to preserve local control of schools but not eliminating funding.
Nichols says she is not a current member of what the mailer calls a fringe group, the Texas Nationalist Movement.
She says she only attended the group to learn from its constitution classes.
