State Representative honors Southeast Texas runners

Ironically at about the same time as the explosions at the Boston Marathon occurred, Southeast Texas runners were being honored in Austin.

State Representative Joe Deshotel honored Richard and Amie James, the founders of the Gusher Marathon, along with members of the Sea Rim Striders.

Deshotel read a proclamation in their honor at the state capitol.

Deshotel says their efforts have made Southeast Texans healthier and have improved the quality of life in our area.

Others honored were  Angela Foster Gillis and Willie Gillis for setting an example with their combined weight loss of 500 pounds through nutrition, exercise and sheer force of will.

Felix Lugo for his 50th marathon and carrying a 5'x3' American flag for the love of those that have or do serve our country.

Also honored was Iram J. Leon, who lives courageously, running all 26.2 pushing his 6 yr old daughter in a stroller, not allowing a terminal brain cancer diagnosis to control his life.
