Soccer fans pack Beaumont sports bars to cheer on USA

Cheers of "U-S-A! U-S-A!" and "I believe that we will win!" echoed throughout Buffalo Wild Wings in Beaumont Thursday, as a packed house full of soccer fans cheered on the United States in the team's World Cup match against Germany.

"It's just a sense of pride, you want your team, you want your nation to win," said soccer fan Casey Mozley.

Fans also came out in big numbers to watch the game at other Beaumont sports bars like Luke's Icehouse and Major League Grill, but nothing compared to the crowd at Buffalo Wild Wings.

"It's awesome to see soccer growing, as a whole, and we just gotta come out and support our nation," said John David, who wore a red, white and blue bandana to the bar.

Buffalo Wild Wings opened an hour early and an extra 8 to 10 wait staff was called in to accommodate the huge crowd they knew they would get.

"This is the first time for me to work a World Cup here, and to see the turnout that we get and the passion that people have for it has really floored me," said general manager Angela Sawyer.

In the end, Germany came out on top with a 1-0 victory over the U.S., but because Portugal beat Ghana 2-1, both Germany and the U.S. will advance to the knockout stage.

"We advanced, doesn't matter how it looks as long as we make it to the next round," said Travis Ewest.

The U.S. will play Belgium on Tuesday in a win-or-go-home match.
