Silsbee family loses home to fire Sunday morning

The Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 1100 block of 2nd Street where a blazed ripped through a Silsbee home early Sunday morning leaving a woman and two children without a home

A neighbor next door was awaken by his wife after seeing the blaze.

"I opened the blinds and I seen it flash up, and I told her, get dress, let's get out of here," the neighbor said.

The father of the victim, James Johnson, was hoping his daughter and grandchildren took the same action.

"Her and the kids wasn't in the house, that set my mind at ease," Johnson said.

In fact, Silsbee Police Detective Dennis Hughes tells 12 News HD no one was home when the fire broke out.

"The way things happened, we knew somebody was looking over them for them to not be here," Johnson said.

While this may be a loss for this family during the holidays, they're just thankful to have each other.

"You can replace physical things, but you can't replace lives," said Johnson.
