Romo itching to get back on field

The Dallas Cowboys' franchise QB Tony Romo, who has been limited as he recovers from December back surgery, tried to sneak his way into team drills for the first time this offseason.

Romo traded jerseys with backup Caleb Hanie and got under center, but Cowboys coach Jason Garrett quickly noticed Hanie's jersey was "a little snug" and told Romo to get back on the side and out of harm's way.

"I think any time you're getting healthier and getting ready to go, you kind of want to ramp it up," Romo said. "But we'll have plenty of time for that here soon. As a competitor, you just want to get back out there."

Romo did get under center for some pre-practice work with the first-team offense but was later limited to individual drills. Indications are he will be a full participant when training camp starts next month.
