Prominent Port Arthur businessman Jim "Poochie" Darby has died at 85

Well-known Port Arthur businessman Jim "Poochie" Darby has died at the age of 85.

His daughter, Claire Thomason, told 12News her father passed away Friday afternoon.

Darby was the founder of Poochie's Food Marts, Poochie's Gulf Oil Distribution Co. and Darby's Automotive and Tire Supply.

He and his wife, who died in 2011, were strong proponents of Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas.  They were the first king and queen of Port Arthur's Mardi Gras for the Krewe of Neptune.

The Darbys were also strong supporters of the Hughen School.

Funeral services are pending.
