Lockdowns at Ridgeweood Elementary, Port Neches Elementary and Port Neches Middle Schools were lifted Tuesday afternoon as Port Neches Police continue to search for an armed robber. The schools were put on lockdown as a precaution because of the nearby robbery.
The robbery happened just after 9 a.m. at a store located at 3002 Nall St. in Port Neches. Store Owner Ali Khoja told 12News the robber, armed with a gun, pulled a ball cap off of his head and ordered the clerk to put cash in the hat. He then fled with the money.
The clerk was able to get the licence plate off of the truck used by the robber.
Khoja said there were no customers in the store when the robbery happened.
Police say the truck, a 1998 white Ford single cab with a bed-length tool box, was found a few hours after the robbery. A police spokesperson could not say where the truck was found but did tell 12News that the truck was stolen from Groves several days ago.
A statement issued by the Port Neches Police Department describes the robber as a white male wearing a dark colored hoodie with a black handgun.
Police say they may know who is responsible and are expecting to make an arrest soon.
