PORT ARTHUR - Dr. Trip Chaudhury has practiced medicine in Southeast Texas for more than 20 years, making him the top pick to serve as Medical Director for Port Arthur's Teri and Glen Morgan Golden Triangle Cancer Center.
The state of the art facility is underwritten by Readu, Morgan and Quinn Lawfirm and officially opens next week.
The goal is to provide high-tech treatment to improve the odds that Southeast Texas cancer patients won't have to travel to Houston or other locales.
"Any cancer, if you detect it early, the cure rate is very high and you don't want to lose that opportunity of missing the early stage of detection, so this is very helpful," Dr. Chaudhury said.
The cancer center will even offer free transportation for patients who need it to come to treatments. Dr. Chaudhury says the treatment is critical.
"We will be treating the cancer patients with high-tech radiation treatment here, radiation will be going deep into the tissue without significant side effect," Dr. Chaudhury said.
He says offering services like free cancer screenings and a free ride, shows the center wants to help the community.
"Radiation usually takes 5 days, 6 to 8 weeks of treatment. So it's coming every day like that, it's a difficult task for them so it'll definitely be helping if we provide this service," Dr. Chaudhury explained.
A grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony will take place next Thursday at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 2875 Jimmy Johnson Boulevard.
