Police release photo taken during Pinehurst Dollar General robbery

Pinehurst police are investigating an armed robbery at the Dollar General Store located on Martin Luther King Jr Drive.

Police say the robbery happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Store employees told officers a man came into the store and acted as if he was going to buy an item. When the clerk opened the cash register, the man pulled out a black semi-automatic pistol. Police say he threatened the clerk, took cash and ran away.

Police describe the man as a white male, around 5'9" tall, 175 lbs., with short gray hair, gray stubby facial hair, with a reddish complexion. Witnesses said he is possibly in his late 30's. He was wearing a black toboggan hat, red long sleeve sweatshirt, and light colored blue jeans.

The car used in the robbery is described as late model silver Chevrolet Impala with damage on the rear passenger side area.
