Police increase patrols in Beaumont looking for rapist

There is an increased police presence in Beaumont.

Officers are on the search for a serial rapist.

Since May 5, police say the man has sexually assaulted three women at three apartment complexes in Beaumont's north end.

The Beaumont police department is taking several steps to catch the man as soon as possible.

Police patrols are increasing citywide, specifically in the night time, because all the attacks have taken place between midnight and 2 a.m.  They are also asking for the public's help.

Captain Jim Clay said, "He (the rapist) is armed with a handgun in all three cases, so we are concerned about the safety of our citizens."

Clay said the police department is stepping up its presence citywide.

He said, "I don't want anyone to think that if they don't live in the north end, they're being left out."

Clay said people must also be vigilant.  He said the two of the women were attacked in the parking lots of their apartment complexes and the third had left her apartment door open.

The man is described as being a dark-skinned black man in his early to mid-20's, he's about 5'9" to 5'10" in height, thin and clean-shaven.  He is also described as having very distinctive, bulging eyes, and a wide flat nose.
