A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Monday night on Crockett Street for the victims of a weekend car accident in Chambers County.
24-year-old Derek Tremont was killed in the wreck Saturday night on Highway 124 at mile marker 490.
Six other people were injured; five of them were passengers in Tremont's car. We know that one of those victims remains in critical condition at UTMB hospital in Galveston.
The driver of the other vehicle was also injured.
Authorities say alcohol was a factor in the accident, and that Tremont was speeding and passing other vehicles moments before the crash.
Tremont's mother, Rochelle Scott, says her son was a giving man who always helped anyone in need. She says he loved fishing and dancing.
Tremont's father says his son was hoping to start classes at Lamar to become an electrician.
Funeral arrangements are pending, but the service will be held at Broussard's Mortuary.
