Updating a report 12News broke Thursday night, Superintendent Dr. Johnny Brown has confirmed he could leave the Port Arthur Independent School District before his contract expires next year.
Last month, Dr. Brown announced he would not be renewing his contract when it ends in September 2014. But sources told 12News Brown could be exiting earlier than that, and that the board was considering buying out the remainder of his contract.
After watching our report Thursday night, Dr. Brown told us he might leave his post before then. He says it all depends on what's best for him and the school district.
Dr. Brown became PAISD superintendent in 2006, and he says he's proud of what's been accomplished under his tenure.
He cites improved test scores, fewer school drop-outs and an increase in the graduation rate among his successes.
