Port Arthur police have arrested a man who they say is a gang member and is accused of terrorizing elderly women.
Police say 21-year-old Jose Buendia is charged with the attack and robbery of a 64-year-old woman at the HEB on Gulfway Drive on December 23.
Police say he struck her in the face several times and stole her purse.
Investigators say he's a person of interest in a similar crime in Groves where a woman was hit and robbed at the HEB Twin City Highway.
Police say Buendia is a member of the 5-2 Hoova gang. He is now in the Jefferson County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Port Arthur police investigator Marcelo Molfino credits the hard work of Investigator Peter Croak and great witness involvement for an arrest in this case.
Molfino also says gave praise to the help given by the Port Arthur police department's street crimes unit and the U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force.
