Orange County authorities identify 10-year-old killed in boating accident

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has identified a 10-year-old girl killed in a weekend boating accident as Janae Borel.

The Sheriff's Office received an emergency call around 6 p.m. Saturday.  The caller reported a boating accident that happened on the Sabine River near the end of West Bluff Road in the north Orange area of Orange County.

When Deputies and rescue personnel with Emergency Services District #3 arrived, they were told that a man and his two daughters had been out in a boat on the Sabine River when the inclement weather came into the area.  The boat collided with a dock.  The man lost control of the boat and all three were thrown out of the boat.

The boat immediately sank.

Ann Borel, 7, sustained serious injury to her hand and leg.  Deputies say Janae Borel could not be immediately found.  Janae  was later found trapped under water by the boat.  She was non-responsive.

The two girls were taken to Baptist Hospital in Orange, but life saving measures could not revive Janae .

Orange County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge David Peck arrived at the hospital and ordered an autopsy of the 10-year-old.  She was taken to the Jefferson County Morgue.

Ann Borel had to be air-lifted to a Houston hospital due to the severity and type of injuries. She underwent surgery Sunday and is in stable condition.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Wardens were also on scene and are conducting an accident investigation.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the father, 40-year-old Andy Borel, did not sustain any serious injury.

The investigation is on-going.
