Only one development company met Tuesday's deadline to submit a proposal for a hotel and water park at Ford Park. The company is Pate Development of Wichita, Kansas. It was founded 68 years ago by Carman H. Pate Senior.
Pate began his career as a cabinet maker for a luxury hotel. Now the company specializes in building subdivisions, apartments, condos and hotels.
Jefferson County commissioners started advertising for proposals a month ago. County Judge Jeff Branick says a final decision won't be made until mid-December. He says the county would be willing to give developers a break on hotel- motel taxes, property taxes or sales taxes.
