One week left on grace period before Southeast Texas Warrant Roundup

The Beaumont Police Department has issued a word of warning for those with  an outstanding traffic warrant.  You still have one week to take advantage of a grace period before being subject to arrest.

The Beaumont Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies will be taking part in the Southeast Texas Warrant Roundup on February 10. During the enforcement phase of the roundup, local law police and sheriff's deputies will join forces to find and arrest people who did not take advantage of the grace period.

The roundup targets thousands of defendants with traffic, parking, city ordinance, penal code, and higher charge warrants from around the area. Agencies involved in the warrant round up include the Beaumont Police Department, Port Arthur Police Department, Lumberton Police Department, Lamar University Police Department, BISD Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety.

Officers are encouraging anyone with an outstanding traffic warrant to contact the appropriate court during the next week to take care of their warrant.

A statement issued Friday by the Beaumont Police Department says, "Doing so voluntarily during the grace period means you can avoid the inconvenience, additional costs, and embarrassment of arrest."

During the first week of the grace period, the City of Beaumont Municipal Court received 943 calls from citizens checking to see if they had an outstanding warrant that they could take care. Those phone calls resulted in 83 defendants clearing up 154 warrants.

Below is information on how citizens can take care of any outstanding warrants during the grace period to avoid arrest during the enforcement period.
