Neighbors disapprove of plans for boarding house in Beaumont

A Beaumont family says it will go to any lengths necessary to keep a boarding house for sober living women out of its neighborhood.

Saving Grace Ministries is the non-profit organization that wants to run the boarding house. It is requesting a specific use permit to use the old Sprott Hospital at 2390 Cartwright street.

There was a public hearing on the matter in city council chambers Monday. The family and others in the surrounding neighborhood say they disapprove and say few neighbors received a letter about the hearing.  They say such a facility will open their neighborhood to crime something they've worked hard to keep out.

A Beaumont City Councilman told 12News the Zoning and Planning Department has approved the permit.  It will go before city council in a couple of weeks.

12News tried to speak with the owner of the Sprott hospital but was asked to leave his property.

12News also left a message with the executive director of Saving Grace Ministries but has not heard back.
