Nederland police arrest suspect in robbery and shooting

Nederland Police Darrell Bush tells 12News an arrest has been made in a robbery and shooting that took place last Saturday night, November 16.

The suspect in custody is 33-year-old Christopher Michael Hebert of Groves, and police say he's confessed.

He's charged with the robbery of Twin City Liquor, which is at 507 North Highway 347 in Nederland.

During the robbery, police say Hebert shot the store clerk Sirag Thobani.

Thobani is expected to fully recover from his wounds.

Chief Bush says Detective Ben Hanks with the Nederland Police Department conducted the investigation, and through information obtained by various citizens was able to identify Hebert as the suspect.

During the course of his investigation, Hanks was able to interview Hebert and obtained a confession from Hebert implicating himself in the robbery.

Hebert is also a suspect in another armed robbery that happened last Sunday night, November 17, at a Shell station on West Parkway Street in Groves. Groves City Marshall Jeff Wilmore says Hebert also confessed to that crime.

Hebert has been booked into the Jefferson County Jail charged with Aggravated Robbery.

His bond has been set at $2 million.
