Nederland police and fire departments moving locations

The Nederland police and fire departments will be temporarily displaced during the renovation of their current locations inside city hall.

The police department will now be housed at 1041 Nederland Avenue and the fire department will move into a trailer across the street from the current location.

The building on Boston Avenue is going to be completely reconstructed into the new 3.1 million dollar Homer E. Nagel Public Safety Complex.

Both the police and fire chief are looking forward to moving into their upgraded building in about a year from now.

"The new facility is going to be a lot better laid out and more modernized and give us a lot more room," said Police Chief Darrell Bush.

"This is going to allow us to perform our job better and easier," said Fire Chief Gary Collins.

The Nederland city manager says project will create a more efficient facility for the police and fire departments to work in.

One million dollars of the money for the project is coming from a port security grant and the rest from city bonds.

People who need police or municipal court services during regular business hours can go to the Nederland avenue location and after hours citizens can go to the Boston Avenue location.

Mid-county dispatch, which covers Nederland Port Neches and groves, will not be moved during the transition and all numbers will remain operational.
