Mother says her daughter was intended victim in wreck that killed Vidor teen

Kelvin Lee Roy, 32 of Beaumont, is facing a murder charge in the death of Alexandria Bertrand, 16, of Vidor, because of what his girlfriend has told Vidor police.

Taralynn Brown told investigators she was in the car that Roy was driving last Friday night.  She said Roy was high on drugs and enraged.  She said Roy was trying to kill her and himself when he crashed into the minivan carrying Alexandria "Lexy" Bertrand.

Brown's mother, Felicia, traveled to Beaumont from New Orleans to take care of her daughter, who remains in the hospital.

Felicia says she never approved of Taralynn's relationship with Roy, but she says it took her 28-year-old daughter almost losing her life, to realize he was not good for her.

Felicia told 12News, "When my daughter told me he intentionally done this, that's just horrible, then you took another life."

That other life belonged to Lexy.

Felicia says she and her church in New Orleans have been praying for Lexy's family.

She said her daughter almost lost her right leg as a result of the collision, but doctors saved it.  However Felicia says her heart still aches for Lexy.

She said, "I don't know how it feels to lose a child, but I can't imagine it, I can't imagine it, and I almost did."

But Felicia is proud of Taralynn telling police the truth of what led to the tragic wreck.

She said, "I always told my children, tell the truth, shame the devil, always tell the truth."

Felicia says she's also praying for Roy, she said, "He's a troubled man, I couldn't be angry with him, I know it's not of God, and it's not in my heart."
