The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body in a rural part of the county.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Rod Carroll Saturday said a call came in around 9:30 a.m. Saturday reporting the discovery of a body off South China Road. This is in a rural area of the county between Nome and China.
Deputy Carroll said the body is that of an adult white male of an undetermined age. The body was found naked and wrapped in a sheet in the backseat of a newer model tan-colored Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle was found in a ditch just off the road. The body was discovered by a passerby.
Deputy Carroll said the area is a common fishing spot.
Jefferson County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson declared the victim deceased.
The cause of death as of 11 p.m. Saturday is not known. An autopsy has been ordered.
