Man gets two life sentences for attempted capital murder of police officers

A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to two life prison terms for attempted capital murder against detectives with the Orange Police Department.

On March 29, 2011, detectives with the Orange Police Department executed a narcotics search warrant at 2309 Riverside Dr. in Orange.  When officers arrived at the address, a man inside fired a .40 caliber Glock pistol through the doorway at the officers.

No one was hit.

The man who fired the shots, identified by police as David Glen Mays, 36, of Orange, was arrested for attempted capital murder, possession of a controlled substance, and felon in possession of a firearm.

On Wednesday, Mays was convicted by a jury in the 163rd District Court of Orange County and sentenced for attempted capital murder of Sgt. Robert Ashworth and Sgt. Robert Estrello.
