Man arrested after leading Beaumont police officer on chase

Beaumont police are working to identify a man lead an officer on a chase Thursday morning that ended when he crashed his car.

Around 11:45 a.m. a patrol officer near the intersection of magnolia and Hale noticed a car with something dragging underneath it.  She tried to catch up to the driver and get his attention, but he ignored her.

The driver got onto Interstate 10 at 11th Street and drove the wrong way westbound on I-10.  The officer broke off pursuit.

The suspect was located again and the officer began to follow.  He lost control of the car and crashed near the corner of Anderson and French Road.  He tried to flee on foot, but the officer was able to apprehend him.

The suspect received facial injuries.  He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

He did not have a valid ID on him.  Officers did find a 'dipped' cigarette in his possession.

A police spokesperson said the man faces traffic violations, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.
