LU Student Wins State Farm Tailgate Trailer Sarah Yarborough receives prize at Provost Umphrey Stadium Monday afternoon
BEAUMONT, Texas -- A few months ago Lamar student Sarah Yarbrough voted online in the Mascot Challenge presented by State Farm, and that small act placed her name in a drawing for a much bigger prize. Yarbrough was the recipient of that prize Monday afternoon. She received a $10,000 tailgate trailer complete with grill, high-definition flat screen television and DVD player, all sponsored by State Farm.
"It is a very special day," said Yarbrough. "When I first received the call informing me that I had won, I honestly didn't believe it. I thought someone was scamming me, but after he told me the date of when it took place, and what it was from I got really excited."
Yarbrough's name was selected from a pool of nearly 20,000 that were entered to win online. The Mascot Challenge is a contest during every football season where fans can vote for their favorite Southland mascot.
In addition, to receiving the State Farm Tailgate Trailer, Lamar head football coach Ray Woodard also presented Yarbrough with a tailgate spot at Provost Umphrey Stadium during the 2014 season, along with sideline passes.
"I was really surprised by everything," said Yarbrough. "This is very kind of State Farm and Lamar. I'm so grateful for everything. I'm looking forward to the upcoming football season."
When Yarbrough arrived at Provost Umphrey Stadium, she was greeted by State Farm representatives, several members of the LU Athletics staff, including Director of Athletics Jason Henderson, head coach Ray Woodard, numerous Cardinal football players as well as the Lamar mascot, Big Red.
