Longtime Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy resigns

A longtime Jefferson County law enforcement officer is resigning.

Zena Stephens made history as Jefferson County's first African-American female chief deputy.  But after 16-years in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, she has decided to move on to pursue other opportunities.

Her boss, Sheriff Mitch Woods says he'll miss her and he doesn't want her to leave. He says she's played a large role in the successes of the sheriff's office.

"I accomplished a lot with her, and would not have accomplished as much without her," said Woods.
