One dead, one critical after car flips into Schoolhouse Ditch in Vidor

A 51-year-old woman from Cedar Park died over the weekend after succumbing to her injuries from a car crash in Vidor.

VIDOR - A Vidor police officer used his baton to smash through the windshield of an overturned car as he tried to rescue a woman trapped under water.  The officer performed CPR on the woman until an ambulance crew arrived.  They rushed her to the hospital.  She survived into Saturday, but doctors were unable to save her life.

A police spokesperson identified the deceased woman as Alexandria Marie Halliday, 51, of Cedar Park, Texas.

Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said the accident happened just before 11 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of S. Main Street. Halliday was a passenger in a car that left the roadway, flipped, and was submerged in water in the School House Ditch when police arrived.

The driver, David Ninteman, 25, of Vidor, was also taken to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth in serious condition.

Police as of Monday morning have not yet said what caused the accident.  Chief Carroll said the investigation is ongoing.
