Vidor narrows police chief applicants from 20 to four

VIDOR - The city of Vidor has announced four finalists in it's search for a new police chief.

Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst announced in a release on Friday that the field had been narrowed from 20 applicants down to four finalists.

Current Vidor Police Chief Dave Shows will retire in November.

The city manager will be interviewing the finalists soon and hopes to bring a nominee for the job to the city council for approval in late November or early December.

The finalists, in alphabetical order, are...

  • Rod Carroll, Assistant Deputy Chief and Public Information Officer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
  • James Healy, Director of the Criminal Justice Training Center at the University of Houston-Downtown
  • Richard Howard, Highway Patrol Sergeant with the Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Paul Odin, Chief of Police for the City of West Columbia.
