Two separate 18-wheeler wrecks close interstate, send four to hospital

BEAUMONT - Two separate wrecks shut down westbound Interstate Ten and  snarled traffic passing through Beaumont and sent four people to area hospitals Wednesday morning.

Just after 8 a.m. an 18-wheeler entered westbound IH-10 from the Walden road on ramp and moved into the fast lane where a flatbed TXDot contractor's truck with directional signals was moving along the shoulder of the median picking up trash according to Beaumont Police Department spokesperson Haley Walters.

The 18-wheeler struck the rear of the TXDot contractor truck pushing it onto the cable barrier according to Walters.

No one was injured the wreck and no citations regarding fault were issued she said.

Crews also had to clean up a diesel spill following that wreck.

The Walden road wreck backed up westbound traffic on the interstate past College Street and contributed to the cause of another wreck at about 9:30 a.m. in front of the Chili's restaurant.

In that accident an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck pulling a fifth-wheel travel trailer collided sending four people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Walters said.

One person had to be extracted and three others were removed by other motorists she said.

All lanes of westbound Interstate Ten were reopened by about 11:15 a.m.
