Tractor driver killed in Hardin County collision

HARDIN COUNTY - A DPS investigator says a tractor driver's last-minute decision to change direction cost him his life in Hardin County Sunday night

DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said around 6:30 p.m., Brian Sumrall, 39, of Batson, was driving a 2015 Kubota tractor south on FM 770 about two miles south of Batson.  She said it appears Sumrall was in front of a 2015 Chevrolet pickup headed south.  Sumrall slowed down and pulled off the roadway.  For an unknown reason, he tried to get back onto the roadway and was rear-ended by the pickup.  The impact threw him from the tractor.

Sumrall was pronounced deceased at the scene by Hardin County Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace Judge Jackie Werner. The driver of the Chevrolet, Joe Patton, 35, of Hull, was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries.
