BEAUMONT - Curious kayakers got the chance to paddle as part of the Neches River Rally fundraiser earlier today. Randy Beehn has been a Big Thicket Association member for 15 years and enjoys being out on the water.
"People would really enjoy it if they come out and it's a great opportunity to kayak or canoe," he said.
Jan Ruppel, president of the Big Thicket Association was happy to hear people were relaxing on the river today.
She says the Neches River help makes Southeast Texas special.
"Every place has its unique niches, and the Neches River and the preserve on the Neches is incredible," she said.
The park is celebrating 100 years with the National Park Service, and Ruppel hopes other generations can find peace in the Big Thicket Preserve.
"Kids love it. You know, your imagination can go wild in here. It's an incredible place of beauty," Ruppel said pretty sights are only a paddle away.
The centennial celebration for Big Thicket will take place at the Preserve visitor's center in Kountze on October 1st.
