Suspect fights with Lumberton police chief and officer in Walmart

LUMBERTON - Lumberton Police Chief, Danny Sullins and one of his officers were slightly injured after a DWI suspect fought them in the Lumberton Walmart.

The officers had responded to a series of calls requesting help with an erratic driver who had pulled into the store at about 7:30 Wednesday night.

When confronted in the sporting goods department, the suspect began attacking the officers.

The 38-year-old man from Lufkin will be charged with DWI, 2 counts of assault of a public servant, and resisting arrest. His identity has not been released.

The chief and officer sustained only minor injuries.
