BEAUMONT - A former Beaumont business owner and well-known community member passed away just shy of his 60th birthday.
Family members share with 12News that 'Starvin' Marvin Atwood passed away Saturday afternoon from health complications.
Atwood would have turned 60 on July 3.
Atwood owned and operated Starvin Marvin's Bar & Grill, a Country-style restaurant and bar with bi-level outdoor patio, live music & televised sports. The joint opened in May of 2010 but closed roughly four years later.
"Best of all, he loved his food and he loved to cook for others." said his wife, Deborah Atwood.
The 59-year-old also loved raising horses and playing golf but had a deeper passion of always helping others.
"Everyday was a blessing to get up and help someone out in their daily lives that normally wouldn't be helped he said. It was a blessing to him that he was able to get paid to do that." said Brittaney Atwood.
Atwood made headlines several times over the grill's existence for a lengthy legal battle regarding noise violations and city ordinances.
The Atwood family request people make donations to Child Abuse and Foensic Services, INC http://www.cafstx.org in his honor.
Atwood's funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Grace Church in Kountze.
