Charity Wright from Beaumont, who now lives in Montgomery, showed a picture of what her room looked like on Sunday night at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.
She barricaded her room with mattresses and other furniture while the building was on lockdown during a mass shooting.
The Luxor Hotel is just walking distance from the Mandalay Bay, where a gunman went on a shooting rampage Sunday night.
"I noticed when I was in the shuttle van coming back to the hotel, I noticed a few people running and a few cop cars but I thought it was a street accident." said Kerry Williams.
Williams was in Las Vegas over the weekend celebrating his birthday. He was staying at The Orleans Hotel about eight miles away from Mandalay Bay not realizing that the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. History was happening just miles from him.
"Once I got back to my hotel room, that's when I turned on the TV and they had breaking news. That's when they said the shooting was going on." he explained over the phone.
Police say Stephen Paddock shot people from the 32nd floor at Mandalay Bay killing more than 50 and injuring hundreds of concertgoers at a country music festival Sunday.
As for Williams, he is expected to arrive in Beaumont on Tuesday.
