Silsbee parent volunteers for decades

Every high school around here has a concession stand, but one Silsbee volunteer is really serving up Tiger spirit. Iris Robertson has been helping staff Silsbee High football games for almost as long as anyone can remember.

"All three of my kids graduated from Silsbee," Robertson said.

So did her grandkids and she's been volunteering the whole time.

"No one has been here as long her," said Annita Leatherwood, a three-year volunteer.

On game days, you'll find Iris in this corner of the visitor concession stand, doing her favorite thing: popping nearly 30 batches of popcorn on busy nights. She encourages other parents to join her.

"Just come once and try us out," she said.

"It's more like a family," Leatherwood said. "We call ourselves a 'bandly' instead of family."

If you want in on the 'bandly' with Robertson, you better act fast; she says she's not sure just how many more years she'll be behind the popper.

"I gotta get through this one first," she laughed.
