Red Cross looking for new Beaumont location

The American Red Cross of Southeast Texas closed its Beaumont office on Thursday.

The American Red Cross of Southeast Texas closed its Beaumont office on Thursday.

The organization planned on moving into a new location before Harvey hit but once it re-evaluated its finances after the tropical storm it found out the new building was no longer in its budget.

However, the Red Cross will continue to provide services out in the community.

According to the press release, most of the Red Cross programs usually take place outside the brick and mortar building.

"The Red Cross is not a building," said Chester Jourdan, Executive Director, American Red Cross Southeast Deep East. "The Red Cross is the retired school teacher who answers an early morning fire call to help a family who's just lost everything; the woman who meets with military families to make sure they are supported while their loved one serves our country; and the many other neighbors who help us prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters large and small."

The organization is currently looking into finding a new building in Beaumont.

Ekland Durousseau with Red Cross Regional Communications said the Red Cross is close to finding its new location.

She said the Red Cross originally decided to move to a new location to have more adequate space for its volunteers.
