PORT NECHES - There were some Port Neches preschoolers who prepared all week to show their appreciation for police today.

Students at the "Almost Home" daycare put the finishing touches on their "Back the Blue" badges.

Then, they delivered donated food to the Port Neches Police Department. A flag with black and blue handprints shows a message thanking officers for what they do.

Sharon Carter believes it's important to learn these values, even at a young age.

"We teach them from a very young age to respect the community helpers around us and to not be fearful of them and um we just want to continue to do things like this in our community. They're here to help us and we want to teach our children to appreciate them," Carter said.

The kids also visited the Nederland Police Department later in the day.

Carter was excited to see these kids be happy to back the blue.
