PAPD: Boys pull abduction hoax to avoid trouble for skipping school

PORT ARTHUR - Homeowners in Port Arthur are breathing easier after learning that two children found tied up in an abandoned house had not been kidnapped.

Risa Carpenter, a spokesperson for the City of Port Arthur said Friday night that the two boys faked their abduction to avoid punishment for skipping school.

A man who heard the boys calling for help on Wignall Avenue said he immediately called the police.

Ronald Campbell tells 12News officers broke through some boards and found the boys with their wrists tied up with rope. The rope had been thrown over the rafters in the garage area. Campbell feared the boys, who appeared to be around 12-years-old, had been kidnapped.

Checking with officials, it was all a hoax.

The children's identities will not be released.
