Over a thousand Southeast Texas children are in search of a home

BEAUMONT - On November 2nd, 12News is partnering up with the Texas Department of Family and Protective services in helping over a thousand Southeast Texas children find a home.

“I never thought I'd fall in love with someone else's kids as I have,” says Vanessa Jackson.

Vanessa and Charlie Jackson are one of the many foster families in Southeast Texas.

But more are needed, this year more than ever.

Currently, over a thousand Southeast Texas children are without a place to call home.

It's children like 6-year-old Mason, with hopes and dreams who are patiently waiting to find love and support from a foster family, and parents like Gwendolyn Kibodeaux are answering that call.

“We were happy, he just came right on into the dogs. The case worker snuck out and hasn't cried. Like he knew this was his home,” says Kibodeaux.

She says her foster son called them mom and dad from day one.

Before a child is placed in a foster home, the state of Texas requires certain steps to license your home, and with a simple phone call -- you can be *that person who enriches a child’s life.

“It’s very rewarding at the end, I mean the love that every day you get from the child. He says "momma you forgot my hug or kiss,” says Kibodeaux.

Every single child deserves a champion, someone who understands the power of connection in insisting they become the best they can possibly be.

Maybe you could be their champion.

12News will be working hard November the 2nd from 6 AM to 6 PM, answering questions on how you can foster a child.

If you are interested in being a foster parent the number is 409-981-1572
