Orange woman dies in overnight crash

ORANGE COUNTY - A woman from Orange lost her life Friday night after the car she was driving veered into oncoming traffic.

The deadly crash happened around 10 p.m. on SH 62 near FM 105 in Orange County.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety say Kinta Kay Berlinger, 43, was driving northbound on SH 62 when she crossed the center line and struck a Ford Explorer. Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner pronounced Berlinger dead at the scene.

April Peveto, 36, of Newton was a passenger in Berlinger's car. She was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV, Joey Hunt, 54, of Bridge City, was taken to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston with serious injuries. He had two passengers in the SUV. Karen Saucier, 52, of Orange was taken to Southeast Texas Medical Center for treatment to serious injuries.  The other passenger was not hurt.

Troopers are still working to determine the exact factors that contributed to the crash.
