Neighbors rush to help as house in Groves goes up in flames

GROVES - Groves fire department received a call about a structure fire at the 3600 block of canal street at approximately 3:30p.m. Wednesday.

The owner of the home was at a neighbors home when flames broke out. They immediately called 911 when flames were seen. No one was injured. 

"We couldn't save his house, we tried to save his truck." said Alex Simmons 

Simmons says the owner was over at their house across the streets when the fire erupted.

"Half of his living room caught on fire, the couches caught on fire, it blew all of his windows." Simmons explained. 

The house may be a total loss according to Groves Fire Chief Dale Jackson.

Nederland fire department was called to the scene to assist. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time according to Groves fire department.

This is an ongoing investigation. No one was hurt.
