BEAUMONT - New information on Thursday night’s stabbing that left one man dead on Thanksgiving Day, Police have identified the victim as 31-year-old Anthony Bernard.
Many neighbors are in shock after hearing about last night’s stabbing on the 51 hundred block of Gober in Beaumont, a domestic dispute turned into a physical altercation on Thanksgiving Night.
Police say Bernard was found with a stab wound to the chest, something neighbors like Brenda Williams find completely unreal.
“It's terrible, for it to happen on Thanksgiving Day, it’s a day we should be giving thanks, nothing like this should happen,” she explains.
Brenda has been living in this neighborhood for over 22 years, and she says she's never seen anything like this before.
“It makes me feel really bad that something like this should happen, too many things going on in the world nothing like this should happen close to home,” she says.
Police received call at around 9 pm Thanksgiving Night, after finding Bernard, paramedics took him to Christus Southeast Texas Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he later died.
Sgt. Cody Guedry of the Beaumont Police Department says arrests have not been made, but a suspect has been identified.
“There is evidence this could be self-defense,” says Guedry.
Brenda says that incidents like this hit close to home, she says she hopes and prays for a solution to this family problem.
“We need to come together in the community and be more watchful and careful for our children, for we are our neighbor’s keeper,” she explains.
Police say that although arrests have not been made, police will present investigation to the grand jury for final decision
