Neighbor threatens to kill Kirbyville family with machete

A Kirbyville woman says she feels unsafe in her home after her neighbor allegedly threatened to kill her family members with a machete.

KIRBYVILLE - Last week, Amanda Merimon was outside of her Kirbyville home with family.

That's when she says her neighbor was wielding a machete making dangerous threats.

"He's waving it around with a 15-year-old, a 9-year-old, 6-year-old and a 5-year-old telling us he was going to start killing people, threatening us," Merimon said.

Later, Kirbyville Police arrived and arrested 45-year-old Kitchrich Bean for traffic warrants.

They say they're still investigating the alleged threats the man made against Merimon and her family members.

But Merimon is asking the police to do more.

"I don't want my kids to worry about what he's going to do next when my kids are outside playing, is he just going to go off, you know?" Merimon said.

She hopes a police response can bring peace of mind to this mother of two.

Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister tells 12 News that Bean served four days in Jasper County Jail for his traffic warrants.

The threat allegations have not yet been presented to a judge as they are searching for more information from other witnesses, according to Chief Brister.
