Motorcycle driver and passenger recovering following accident in Deweyville

First responders responded to a motorcycle accident on highway 12, near highway 87 in Deweyville.

NEWTON COUNTY - Two people are recovering after being involved in a two vehicle accident on Highwy 12, near Highway 87 in Newton County.

According to Department of Public Safety officials, the crash happened between a motorcycle and a Ford pickup truck around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The preliminary investigation shows the pickup truck was heading northbound on Highway 87. A motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Highway 12, when the pickup merged onto Highway 12 to make a left turn into a store parking lot. To avoid impact with the pickup, the motorcycle driver slammed on his brakes, but could not avoid a collision.

The driver of the motorcycle and the young passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The driver has been identified as 33 year old Darren Foster Jr. of Vidor and the passenger is a 10 year old boy.

Both were taken to Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont, but their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as 24 year old James Gonzales of Orange, but he was not hurt in the crash.

D.P.S. Troopers and the Deweyville Volunteer Fire Department  responded to the accident.

At this time, the report does not show whether helmets were worn by the motorcycle driver or passenger. The crash is still under investigation.
