Manhunt underway after suspect fires at Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy

Sheriff's deputies searched the Diamond D Ranch neighborhood for two suspects who shot at a deputy Monday night

BEAUMONT - Authorities are searching for at least one person on Highway 90 near the Diamond D Ranch subdivision.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says one of 2 suspects fired at least two shots at a deputy. That lawman then returned fire. The deputy was not injured.

One suspect is in custody after being found in the yard of a home in the neighborhood.

Jefferson County sheriff's deputies say they believe the other suspect is a male with a dark hoodie who may have been running west.

"During the search, we were able to locate a suspect. No guns have been found at the time," Captain Crystal Holmes said.

The sheriff's office, the Beaumont Police Department, and DPS troopers are assisting in the search.

Residents in the Diamond D area are asked to stay inside their homes, lock their doors and call the sheriffs office if they see anything suspicious.

The sheriff's office is asking any residents who may have video of men knocking on doors between 5:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. to call the sheriff's office dispatch number at (409) 835-8411.
